Nails was inspired by relationship issues and the need to strive for something more. You make the decision and have to live with the consequences. But did you actually make that choice? Are you sure it wasn't made for you?
In a more literal sense, the lyrics reflect current world events where people really were forced into a certain course of action through no choice of their own.
